BOOK TALK: Ghosts Of The Farm: Women Farmers Across The Eras

Ghosts of the Farm tells the true story of two ‘wannabe’ farming women from two different eras, in the same fields: Miss White in the 1940s and 1950s, who apprenticed herself to a female farming couple who were the much-loved heart of their village, and Nicola Chester, who, despite working with horses, on farms and as a cowgirl in Canada in the 1980s and 1990s was denied that opportunity. Haunted by these warm, pioneering women, Nicola asks what was lost when the farmgate was shut upon women after WWII? What messages do they have for us now and what should we be asking them? What are the far-reaching consequences, considering climate and land justice, and the importance of women to a thriving community?
