ORFC 2026 8 – 9 Jan
Ever wondered what soil sounds like? This session explores soil bioacoustics as a non-invasive method for listening to life underground. We’ll discuss the practicalities of soil bioacoustic data collection and the approaches for assessing soil health from the audio recordings, including current challenges, such as ‘what animal is making that sound?’. Then, we’ll listen to the difference between “clean” lab recordings for controlled sound library collection and the unruly soundscapes of the field. Join researchers and landworkers to explore practical uses, challenges, and future directions — offering a unique way to connect and think with the living world beneath our feet.
Please note there is no recording for this session.
