Food systems are driving global plastic pollution while suffering from its effects. Used extensively from farm to fork, plastics are deeply embedded in modern agriculture and food supply. Yet these fossil fuel-based materials and the thousands of hazardous chemicals they contain are now contaminating ecosystems, food chains and human bodies. This session convenes the voices of those grappling with this challenge, including frontline communities, farmers and scientists, to discuss why the entire plastics lifecycle, from extraction and production to use phase and end of life, deserves the close attention of the agroecological community.
