Can we build a diverse, profitable and equitable seed production sector for horticulture in the UK based on a shared vision of seed as commons with a focus on breeding and supplying nutrient dense cultivars that can flourish in low-input organic and agroecological systems? Three seed producers who are championing this vision share their experiences as breeders, growers, experimenters and trainers, the challenges of building resilient businesses, developing the sector, improving skills, access to resources and the opportunities for a new generation of growers to breed locally adapted vegetables for small and large-scale horticulture as well as amateur gardeners.
