James and Katie Allen farm at Great Cotmarsh, Wiltshire, overlooking the Marlborough Downs. Placing soil health and nature at the heart of their system, they produce organic and Pasture for Life certified meat for their local community. They are also both leading lights in the farmer-led fibre renaissance. Katie produces her own botanical dyes, which go into her homegrown knitwear, and James has built a micro-tannery to produce tanned leather from the farm and other Pasture for Life farms in the region. An on-farm classroom helps outreach to local schools and fashion brands. This session will focus on this diversification and the growing number of ways for small farms to make money.
