Agroecology has reached a tipping point – it is being challenged to be drawn into the mainstream, or remain an outsider movement. Moving from the outside without losing the radical values and vision is a major challenge, and is key to the political, policy and practical implementation of the agroecological vision. There are some pivotal points in this process and a major one is around technology choices. What is the basis for accepting or rejecting technologies such as robotics, genetic engineering, or artificial intelligence? How can agroecology make the most of technological innovations without losing its soul? At the launch of a new initiative on agroecologically appropriate technology, we invite farmers, growers, co-producers and others to participate in a workshop to help define core principles and criteria for technology that works for, not against, the principles of agroecology.
