Rewilding Britain is the first and only country-wide organisation in Britain focusing on rewilding and the amazing benefits it can bring for people, nature and climate. We are an independent charity committed to catalysing rewilding and influencing rewilding policy across all of Britain.
Rewilding Britain wants to see a mosaic of species-rich habitats restored and connected across at least 30% of Britain’s land and sea by 2030. Our vision is to support the expansion of the scale, quality and connectivity of our native habitats through:
- The creation of core rewilding areas across at least 5% of Britain. These areas should focus on restoring and reinstating as wide a range of natural processes, habitats and missing species as possible. What will emerge is a diverse mosaic of native forest, peat bogs, heaths, species-rich grasslands etc.
- The establishment of nature-friendly land uses across at least 25% of Britain. These will embed and connect up core rewilding areas within broader mosaic of land uses such as low-impact mixed forestry, harvesting of natural products, nature-based tourism and high-nature value grazing.
We are currently developing the Rewilding Network. Landowners can join the network to access practical content around key issues such as grazing, funding and legislation. It will help connect members to link up existing nature-friendly farming practices with rewilding areas through locally-led initiatives. We want to showcase the spectrum of approaches, from nature friendly farming to core rewilding, creating mosaics within our landscapes to achieve nature’s recovery.
