How much we pay for food is contentious. Whilst the expense of organic or smallholder produce might more accurately reflect the cost of production, rising food prices hit the poor more than the rich. So how do we balance farmers’ rights to earn a living from food and everyone’s right to affordable it? And how does the retail sector and food supply chain also impact what proportion of your income you spend on food?
